Invention Convention

Evan had an assignment at school a couple weeks ago to make an invention for his school's "Invention Convention". He decided he wanted to make a helmet with a flashlight attached to it. So we got to work & made a paper mache helmet. Once we had applied all the layers of paper & it was completely dry, Evan painted it inside and out. The last thing to do was hot glue a headlamp flashlight to the outside & add a BYU sticker for some flair. It was a lot of work, but turned out to be a huge success & looked great.

I am really proud of Evan because although it was a lot of work (he had to work on it every day for a week) he never complained once. He came up with a great idea and then saw it through until it was finished. Way to go Evan! You are AWESOME!

Here's Evan with all the supplies we used to make the helmet.

Here he is making the paste for the paper mache.

Many layers of paper mache & several coats of paint later...the finished product!
We even hot glued padding on the inside for added comfort. We used a dog collar for the chin strap & paper mached it inside the helmet so it would be nice and secure.

And here is Evan modeling his awesome helmet. What a good-looking kid!

Wow, I can't believe that helmet is made out of paper mache! It looks great, good idea Evan! I agree that we really do need bike helmets with lights, he should market that idea!

Whoa! That is a good lookin' hat! I would have thought it was a real headlamp hat! Kudos to mom for not vetoing the big idea in the first place! (By the way, I love his HUGE grin in all the pictures, he sure knows what to do when the camera is on!)
